Chris Victor Sorensen

Chris was born in Calgary and was a resident of Kimberley from 1937 to 2019 when he moved to West Kelowna to be near his son John. He started his career as an electrician with Cominco until the sudden passing of his father Chris sr. and he took over the family grocery store Sorensen’s Food Mart on Spokane Street.

Chris had many business ventures in Kimberley and Cranbrook with the most notable being his opening of Super Value in Kimberley in June 1960 and McDonald’s in Cranbrook on April 17, 1974.

Dad was a sports enthusiast playing hockey, golf, 5 pin bowling and enjoyed watching all sports on television. He also enjoyed the outdoors and big game hunting in the fall. He loved to travel and saw many parts of the world with his most favourite being Hawaii and Palm Springs.

Chris was predeceased by his wife Dianne, parents Chris and Matilda (nee Leinweber), second parents Bill and Katherine Cox, sister Vivian and her husband Roy Moe.

He is survived by daughters Jacquelyn Quinn (Bill), Roberta Seifried (Bob), Geraldine Lenihan (Brendan), sons Bill (Maureen), John (MaryJane), and sister Kathy Clarke. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.

A service will be held in Kimberley at a later date.
