Thousands pay respects
Several thousand people made their way to Cranbrook’s Rotary Park and Cenotaph and downtown Nov. 11 for the Royal Canadian Legion’s Remembrance Day march and ceremony.
Dozens of veterans, from the Second World War to the Korean Conflict to Canada’s more recent military commitments, were joined by the RCMP, Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services, cadets and a wide range of local organizations and government officials in the march to the Cenotaph.
This year’s ceremony, held on a cool, sunny morning, the day after the first big snow fall of the season, held extra meaning with the recent incidents in Ottawa and Quebec where Canadian soldiers were killed on our home soil.
To all our veterans, past and present, our thanks can never be enough. Our holding dear to the principles and freedoms that you sacrificed so much for, is at least a start.
In love and honour…
