ATM stolen at Fairmont

Columbia Valley RCMP is investigating an automated teller machine (ATM) theft from a business in the Riverside Golf Course area of Fairmont Hot Springs.

On May 7, at 7:48 a.m., police received dispatch of a break and enter and theft that occurred overnight to a business in the 5000 block of Riverview Road, Fairmont Hot Springs.

The complainant, a female employee, reported that sometime overnight the back door had been pried open and an automated teller machine was stolen from the main hallway of the building.

She advised that they did not have any suspects or witnesses but did have surveillance on site. Police attended and met with the employee. The footage was reviewed and showed two subjects enter the hallway wearing dark clothing, gloves and hoods over their heads, reported Columbia Valley RCMP Detachment acting NCO Cpl. Grant Simpson.

“They approached the machine and were able to rock it loose from the bolts holding it to the ground. The two subjects then carried the machine out of the back door,” he related.

Cranbrook RCMP’s Forensic Identification Services was consulted but did not attend because the suspects wore gloves and did not touch anything else.

Police requested that the employee review the surveillance footage from the prior days to determine whether anyone suspicious had been casing the area.

This investigation is possibly related to another theft of a pickup truck; a file that police is also investigating.
