CCT reveals look at 2024-25 theatre season

Sanjay Fisk

The year 2024 marks the 60th year that Cranbrook Community Theatre (CCT) has been bringing exceptional live theatre to the people of Cranbrook and the surrounding area and 50 years as proud stewards of the Studio Stage Door.

Since 1964, more than 160 productions have entertained us, made us laugh, made us cry and all points in between. To recognize this, CCT has created a special theme for its 2024-25 season – “Honouring our Past: Celebrating our Future.”

Each production for this season has been previously produced by CCT over its 60-year lifespan but will be re-imagined by the directors to bring the production into modern times.

Their theatre season will open October 4 and run to Oct.19 with the musical Pippin, written by Bob Fosse and Roger O. Hinson, and directed by first-time CCT director, Sanjay Fisk.

Pippin is the perfect show to open the season as it was also the very first show produced in the Stage Door.

The mid-winter presentation will consist of two ‘One-Act’ plays.

The Real Inspector Hound by Tom Stoppard will be directed by another first-time director, Kyle Stooshnov and followed by The Man in the Bowler Hat directed by long time CCT veteran, Bob McCue.

Each performance from February 21to March 8, 2025, will consist of both shows.

CCT’s spring production will run April 25 to May 10, 2025, with The Cemetery Club, a popular play written by Ivan Menchell to be directed by Patrick Baranowski.

Baranowski will be remembered for his directorial debut of last season’s comedy, Don’t Dress for Dinner.

CCT is also excited to announce a special event this year. It will be producing a staged reading of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens and adapted for the stage by Trevor Lundy and Jennifer Inglis. A staged reading is a pared down version of a production where the cast will still have their scripts and staging will be minimal.

Each performance will feature a special guest performing alongside the cast of CCT regulars.

A Christmas Carol will run November 28-Dec 7.

Auditions for all four productions will take place June 4 from 6 to 9 p.m., June 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. and June 8 from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Studio Stage Door, 11-11th Avenue S. Cranbrook.

Fifteen-minute audition slots are available for the June 4 and 8 dates by emailing [email protected]. If you cannot make a specific audition time, the June 6 audition date will be a general call.

Jennifer Inglis

Auditions will consist of a short monologue. You can either prepare your own or CCT will have them available to you prior to, or at the auditions. No memorization is necessary, but you must be comfortable enough with the material to perform rather than simply read. You may be asked to perform it a second time with direction from one or more of the directors.

Musical auditions for Pippin will take place as part of Key City Theatre’s auditions for its productions on May 27 and 29.

Fill out an audition registration form through Key City Theatre and indicate the CCT musical Pippin on your audition form.
