Cranbrook Community Theatre (CCT) presented its whodunit murder mystery production of Clue – On Stage at Media Night to a packed house at The Studio Stage Door this past Wednesday evening.

The zany, raucous, and highly comedic debut of Sandy Rustin’s stage adaptation of Jonathan Lynn’s screenplay of Clue was a spectacle. Its antics were met with laughter, shock and surprise, accompanied by a procession of outlandish characters who stole the scene one performance at a time.

“I had no immediate plans on directing this season, but from small acorns grow large trees. And this tree is Huge! When my friend Brenda Burley suggested I take on “Clue,” she had my immediate attention,” said Director Bob McCue in his director’s notes.

According to the director, his onstage rendition of the classic production was a colossal undertaking; McCue acknowledged an outstanding production team when bringing his vision to life.

“We had to build this monstrosity – our thanks to everyone who gave their time to ensure this beast was ready to play with,” he said.

An effective monster, the lighting, special effects, and complex sets went smoothly through many transitions thanks to the hard work of everyone involved.

The eclectic cast brought frenetic energy to the theatre. Their boldly entertaining performances imbued this murder mystery with a spot-on sense of comedic timing.

McCue praised his ensemble of actors for their dedication and hard work.

“I have to mention my actors. You would have to venture far (New York, maybe) to find a more talented and committed cast. They have given their blood, sweat, and yes, sometimes their tears – I am in awe,” he said.

He praised his significant other, producer Michelle McCue, for accepting the challenge of creating traction for the production and helping to get it out to the public along with his marketing team.

“The moral of the story isā€”even if you have only one talent, find amazing people who can do what you can’t and who have a CLUE,” he said.

For an outing filled with laughter and colour and the chance to be transported to an evening of intrigue, Clue will be featured at the Studio Stage Door until May 4 with various showings.
