Galen Olstead named Presenter of the Year
In a celebration of exceptional leadership and dedication to the arts, Galen Olstead, Executive Director of Key City Theatre, has been named the 2024 Presenter of the Year by the British Columbia Touring Council.
This prestigious accolade recognizes Olstead’s significant contributions to the cultural landscape of Cranbrook and the East Kootenay.
The award ceremony took place on April 13 at the Laurel Packinghouse in Kelowna, where Olstead was honoured for his tireless efforts in fostering a vibrant and accessible arts scene. Under Olstead’s leadership, Key City Theatre has flourished as a vital hub for both local talents and renowned international artists, enriching the cultural life of Cranbrook.
Olstead’s impact extends beyond the confines of Key City Theatre, serving as a board member for the BC Touring Council from 2017 to 2023, including a term as Chair from 2021 to 2023. During this time, Olstead spearheaded initiatives such as provincial Town Hall meetings for arts presenters, artists, and agents, advocating for the resilience of rural venues like Key City Theatre during challenging periods, such as the pandemic-related shutdowns of 2020-2021.
Reflecting on the achievement, Olstead expressed gratitude for the peer recognition and emphasized the collaborative effort that has made Key City Theatre a success, highlighting the unwavering support of the community and partners, as well as the talented artists who have contributed to the theatre’s vibrant program.
Key City Theatre, nestled in the heart of Cranbrook, stands as a testament to Olstead’s vision and dedication. With over 40 diverse events annually, ranging from concerts to dance performances, the theatre continues to enrich the cultural fabric of the East Kootenay region.
Notable initiatives such as the Kootenay Children’s Festival and collaborations like EdFest underscore Key City Theatre’s commitment to providing engaging and educational experiences for audiences of all ages.
As Galen Olstead receives the BC Touring Council Presenter of the Year 2024 Award, their leadership and passion continue to shape and inspire the arts community in British Columbia and beyond.
