Mayors make good on hockey team wagers

There was a momentary boozy flourish during the completion of last week’s Regional District of East Kootenay Board of Directors’ meeting.

District of Invermere Mayor Al Miller and City Fernie Mayor Nic Milligan exchanged specialty distilled presents from each other’s community following friendly bets over the outcome of the recent Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) playoffs.

The Columbia Valley Rockies fell to the Fernie Ghostriders in six games in the Eddie Mountain Division finals.

Clapping in the background (centre) of the above image is City of Kimberley Mayor Don McCormick. His Kimberley Dynamiters are now on a quest to win the Mowatt Cup, being played April 18 to 21 at the Kimberley Civic Centre.

The Nitros qualified for B.C.’s Junior A Tier II provincial championship by being host.

The Revelstoke Grizzlies won the Teck Cup in four games over the Fernie Ghostriders to earn the right to represent the KIJHL as league champion.
