MADD’s Call 911 signage unveiling today
City of Fernie council recently supported Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) campaign initiative to install ‘Call 911’ signage throughout the Elk Valley.
The Call 911 program encourages the public to call 911 to report suspected impaired drivers to police.
Ms. Katryna Sigurdson, on behalf of MADD, will be at City Hall at 4 p.m. today, Friday, April 22, to unveil the new signage to be installed throughout Fernie.
The program hopes to change the public perception that calling 911 to report a suspected impaired driver is not an appropriate use of the 911 system.
MADD notes that a 911 program is a “low-cost community program, which is effective at taking impaired drivers off the roads.”
The program is supported by Elk Valley RCMP and signage will be installed in Elkford, Sparwood and Fernie.
The unveiling ceremony takes place at 4 p.m. Friday, April 22 at city hall and the public is invited to attend.
