Charges laid following Wycliffe crash

On May 5, Cranbrook RCMP was called to the intersection of Wycliffe Park Road at Perry Creek Road for a motor vehicle crash.

Reports indicated that a red car had hit a BC Hydro pole and the occupants had fled on foot. RCMP contacted the registered owner of the vehicle who advised that no one should have had her car and it was stolen.

Cranbrook members, along with Kimberley RCMP, and East Kootenay Traffic Services contained the scene until the Police Dog Services team could arrive. The dog team tracked the suspects to a cliff where two males, both residents of Cranbrook, were located. The males were arrested for theft of vehicle and escorted out of the bush.

The two males were assessed by BC Ambulance Service and transported to East Kootenay Regional Hospital.

The 22-year-old male driver of the vehicle was released from hospital after being charged with several offences under the Motor Vehicle Act, including Fail to Remain at the Scene of an accident and Driving Without a Driver’s License.

The vehicle turned out to belong to the 29-year-old passenger, and was not stolen. The passenger was kept overnight in hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
