Two injured in Highway 43 crash
At approximately 1:50 p.m. on July 19, Elk Valley RCMP responded to a report of a serious collision on Highway 43, in the area of Upper Elk Valley Road and Line Creek Mine Road near Sparwood.
A Chevrolet pick-up truck driven by a male in his late 50s was travelling northbound on Hwy 43 in Sparwood when he reportedly collided with a semi tractor cube van that was travelling southbound.
The driver of the pick-up was trapped in the vehicle for approximately one hour before being extracted. He was later airlifted by STARS air ambulance to the hospital in Calgary and was reported to have sustained a broken arm. However, he is in stable condition. The driver of the semi tractor cube van was a male in his mid 20s who was transported to the hospital in Sparwood for examination and released.
Hwy 43 was shut down in both directions for a couple of hours to ensure the safety of the emergency crew during the rescue operation and to facilitate the landing of the STARS air ambulance.
The investigation is ongoing at this time and anyone with any information regarding the incident, please contact the Elk Valley RCMP at (250) 425-6233.
