Rockies Rowing Club AGM upcoming
Not for Profit Organizations are required to hold an annual general meeting (AGM). The Rockies Rowing Club will be hosting its AGM on April 25 at 630 p.m. in the Phillips Room at the Anglican Church Annex, 46-13 Avenue South, Cranbrook.
Last season was full of learning, recreational rowing and racing. We attended three regattas last year and hope to attend five this year. The club had the privilege to host the Rowing Canada recreational fleet last year, which included a trailer. This permitted us to try some new things like going in the Sam Steele Parade and taking our boats to a regatta in the U.S. While at the U.S. regatta some of our rowers were able to learn how to row in an ‘eight plus,’ the type of boat Ben Rutledge won a medal in during the Olympics. Sweep, each person has one oar to manipulate, sculling each person has two oars to manipulate. All together these two types are called rowing.
Plans for 2017 include building our own trailer, teaching those who would like to learn, how to row and those who want to attend regattas to train for racing. In the fall we will have four rowers who learned how to scull here on JimSmith Lake attending various universities and hoping to join their rowing programs.
Rockies Rowing Club has been training on JimSmith Lake since 2001. Keep your calendar open on April 25 and join us to learn what is up and coming in our 16th year.
