Kootenay East voters will be sending a brand new Member of the Legislative Assembly to Victoria once the May 9 British Columbia election results are tallied.

Four-term MLA Bill Bennett has retired and current City of Cranbrook Councillor Tom Shypitka has replaced him as BC Liberal Party candidate.

Former City of Fernie Mayor and Councillor Randal Macnair is running for the BC NDP Party, while Yvonne Prest is the Green Party candidate and Keith Komar is running as a Libertarian.
