2nd Street S reconstruction to begin this week

Mackay Contracting is mobilizing this week setting up site safety requirements and signage on the City of Cranbrook’s much anticipated 2nd Street South reconstruction project.

The city is excited to see this project get underway utilizing a local contractor who has experience taking on large projects, including the recent Idlewild Dam reconstruction. With the project being so close to the downtown area, site safety and maintaining services is of utmost importance to the city and Mackay.

Property access and service disruptions will certainly occur, however, the duration of and the impact to the public will be kept to a minimum while ensuring the construction work can be completed in a timely manner. Residents that will be affected by access and service disruptions will be notified ahead of time by the contractor, who is tasked to minimize these events as much as possible.

To help keep residents, businesses and drivers informed on the status of the 2nd Street South project and others in the 2017 capital roads program, the city has set up several ways to stay connected.

Regular updates can be found on the city’s website, Facebook and Twitter pages. Residents can also subscribe to receive project updates and important service disruption notifications by email. The city will also be bringing a project webcam online later this week, so you can watch the construction in real time from your computer or smartphone similar to the Idlewild Dam project in 2016.

The city is committed not only to the safety of the public but to the safety of our staff and our contractors during this busy construction season. Please respect any road construction signage and directions from any project flaggers during the summer road work. Please slow down and move over to give these personnel the space they need to be safe. Thank you for remembering their safety as well as your own as you drive through construction zones.

The City of Cranbrook apologizes for any inconvenience this construction work may cause. The city appreciates the patience and understanding of the residents affected and the public-at-large while this important work is completed.
