BCBHA puts Boots on the Ground near Elko
On May 6, the British Columbia Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers (BCBHA) held their second annual ‘Boots on the Ground’ habitat restoration and enhancement work party at the Nature Trust of British Columbia’s (TNTBC) 365 ha Sheep Mountain conservation property which is located 10 kilometres south of Elko.
Twenty dedicated members showed up with work gloves, fencing pliers and chainsaws to tackle three different restoration needs. One group removed a section of old dilapidated barbed wire fencing to make the area safe for wildlife movement and another group slashed and piled immature conifer trees situated within grassland habitat areas. The third group pulled a few hundred old fence posts and coiled barbwire with heavy equipment.
Rob Neil, TNTBC’s Kootenay Conservation Land Manager says, “it was a fun and productive day and I appreciate the time and effort that this group put in to remove hazardous wire and address forest encroachment issues in the NW corner of the property.”
BCBHA, in partnership with The Nature Trust of BC works to ensure these important conservation land acquisitions continue to provide the foundation for healthy wildlife populations and quiet, quality hunting and fishing opportunities. These conservation properties combined with Access Management legislation create some of the best places to hunt and fish.
Wild landscapes, secure productive habitat, healthy fish and wildlife populations and quality experiences, that’s what we are all about at Backcountry Hunters & Anglers. Because, hunting and fishing isn’t what we do – it’s who we are.
