Restore Joseph Creek open house Saturday
Plenty of upgrades have been made around the lake at Idlewild this fall. If you have not had a chance to visit the lake lately then this weekend is a great opportunity for you.
A Community Open House for the Restore Joseph Creek project is set for Saturday, November 4 from 1- 3 p.m. at Idlewild Park.
Events will include tours of the park jointly led by City of Cranbrook and Columbia Outdoor School staff, Restore Joseph Creek project information, and riparian area replanting (weather permitting).
“This is a great opportunity for the community to see the upgrades that have been completed and to learn more about the project and how to get involved,” said Todd Hebert, Columbia Outdoor School Executive Director.
The Idlewild replanting project is nearing completion in partnership with Columbia Outdoor School and School District No. 5. Over 2,000 Cranbrook students attended Idlewild park this fall, participating in lessons and activities presented by Columbia Outdoor School. Lessons were delivered by local educators in an experiential manner and focused on habitats, invasive species, and ecosystems. The students then helped to replant riparian sections around the lake with native shrubs and grasses.
“Feedback from students, teachers, and parents has been extremely positive, “Hebert said. “Students are enjoying the hands-on lessons and are really connecting with the project. They are proud of the areas they have planted.”
