Newly elected City of Cranbrook councillor Mike Peabody, centre, was sworn into office last night (Nov. 6).

Saran Press, pictured right, Chief Election Officer for the Oct. 21 by-election, conducted an oath of office and oath of allegiance for Peabody prior to last night’s regular council meeting.

“I’m really excited to have this position. It already seems like we are a good team and I look forward to serving the City of Cranbrook,” Peabody said following the brief ceremony.

Peabody will serve on council for the final year of this current electoral term. A full municipal election will be held in October 2018. He replaces Tom Shypitka who captured the Kootenay East MLA seat in last spring’s provincial election.
