Construction growth continues in Cranbrook

The City of Cranbrook is continuing to see positive growth in development and construction in 2017 over last year.

Reporting to council last night, city chief administrative officer David Kim reported that between July to October the city realized a total construction value of $21.2 million as compared to $8.7 million for the same period of 2016.

“This period of 2017 saw 14 new housing starts (single family, medium multi-family and multi-family high) and five mobile homes on foundation as compared to 15 new housing starts (single family, medium multi-family and multi-family high) and five mobile homes on foundation for the same period of 2016. A total of 95 building permits were issued in this period of 2017 as compared to 112 for the same period in 2016,” Kim told council.

Year-to-date construction values for 2017 are $31.2 million as compared to $22.3 million to the end of October 2017. As of October 31, a total of 224 permits have been issued, compared to 234 for the same period in 2016.
