Buying, selling, renovating?
Find out where to put your money, and energy
The public is invited to attend an engaging information night about home energy efficiency.
Whether you’re buying, selling, renovating or just curious how to get your bills down, this event will connect you to locally relevant resources and services that prioritize energy efficiency, cost savings, and comfort. The evening will feature a presentation and tour of a local show home to highlight home energy efficiency opportunities. The event is free to the public and all ages are welcome.
Dessert and refreshments will be served. No registration is required.
This public information night will be hosted at the Vantage Point Show Home located at 2104 Whiskey Jack Drive on Tuesday, May 15, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., with a demonstration at 7 p.m.
This public event is part of the ‘Building A Legacy’ initiative facilitated by the Regional District of East Kootenay Community Energy Manager position. It is sponsored by BC Hydro, FortisBC, The Real Estate Foundation and supported by the Community Energy Association.
“Building a Legacy is about engaging locally with builders, realtors, local governments and the public – all of whom have a role to play in building and renovating homes that are more comfortable and less costly to operate,” explained Project Manager, Megan Lohmann.
In addition to information about energy efficiency, the Manager of Planning for the District of Sparwood, Nelson Wight, will be announcing an exciting new incentive program for new home construction in the community.
“The easiest and most cost-effective way to achieve a more energy-efficient home is at the time of construction, and that’s why the District of Sparwood adopted their building permit rebate program. We want to make it easier to choose the energy-efficient option,” explained Wight.
Hands-on demonstrations featured during the event will include 10 model wall-assemblies to demonstrate possible combinations of construction and insulation techniques for improved building performance. Ray Smith, a local energy advisor, will be on hand with a blower-door test unit to explain the process of testing airtightness in new and existing homes.
