Unspecified threat to business causes street closure
Just after 10 a.m. this morning, Friday June 22, Cranbrook RCMP was called to a report of an unspecified threat at a business in the 1700-block of Cranbrook Street.
Out of an abundance of caution and to ensure public safety, the business along with adjacent areas were evacuated and traffic was re-routed.
The RCMP Police Dog Service was called to assist Cranbrook RCMP’s General Investigation and Crime Reduction Units with the investigation.
A thorough ground and air search has been completed and the threat has been unable to be substantiated. All those evacuated have returned to their daily business. No further traffic detours remain in place.
RCMP did not name the specific business targeted in the threat.
Sgt. Christopher Dodds, acting Detachment Commander of the Cranbrook RCMP stated, “We would like to thank the public for their patience and the media for their assistance while we worked to safely resolve this situation. We recognize traffic interruptions may be frustrating but assure you they were necessary to ensure the safety of all those involved.”
No further information is available, Dodds said.
