BioBlitz produces education and floating island

On Saturday, June 23, the Restore Joseph Creek Project hosted a BioBlitz and Community Day at Idlewild Park.

The family-friendly event provided the opportunity to visit the park, learn about phase one of the restoration project and get involved with data collection.

As part of the celebration, a floating island habitat was planted with native species and launched in to Idlewild Lake. This isolated habitat is constructed of non-toxic, recycled plastic and floats on top of the water. It provides habitat for birds and animals, shelter for fish, and a surface area for microbes.

The island creates a concentrated wetland effect; natures way of cleaning the water.
