Notice of Election by Voting: Cranbrook
2018 City of Cranbrook Municipal Election
Public notice is hereby given to the electors of the City of Cranbrook that an Election by Voting is necessary to elect six Councillors, and that the persons nominated as candidates and for whom the votes will be received are listed below:

Voting will be open to qualified electors of the City of Cranbrook as follows:
General Voting:
Saturday, October 20 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. atāØLaurie Middle School Gymnasium, 1808 2nd Street South, Cranbrook.
Advance Voting:
Wednesday, October 10 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.āØat Parkview Pavilion Senior CentreāØ125-17th Avenue South, Cranbrook.
Wednesday, October 17 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.āØat 125 17th Avenue South, Cranbrook.
SPECIAL VOTING OPPORTUNITIES will be available to admitted patients or facility residents only on Friday, October 19 at:
- Dr. F.W. Green Memorial Home (10 a.m. ā 11:45 a.m.)
- East Kootenay Regional Hospital (1 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.)
- Joseph Creek Village (9 a.m. ā 2 p.m.)
- Joseph Creek Care Village (2 p.m. ā 5:30 p.m.)
- Mountain View Village (5 p.m. – 5:45 p.m.)
- Scott Villa (9:15 a.m. ā 9:45 a.m.)
Electors from the City of Cranbrook may vote for Councillor BY MAIL if they:
– Ā have a physical disability, illness or injury that affects their ability to vote at another voting āØopportunity, OR
– Ā expect to be absent from the City of Cranbrook on general voting day and at the times of all advance āØvoting opportunities.
REQUESTING A MAIL BALLOT PACKAGE
Before 4 p.m. on October 19, you must submit the following information to the Chief Election Officer (or designate)ās office in person (City of Cranbrook City Hall, 40 10th Ave. South), by mail (City of Cranbrook, City Hall 40 10th Ave. South, Cranbrook B.C., V1C 2M8), telephone (1-866-201-3638), or email ([email protected] ).
- Full name;
- Residential address;
- Address of the property in relation to which you are voting (for non-resident property electors);
- Method of delivery of your mail ballot package:
– Ā pick up at City of Cranbrook, OR
– Ā regular letter mail through Canada Post to residential address, OR
– Ā regular letter mail through Canada Post to an alternate address that you provide when āØrequesting the ballot package;
- To ensure you receive the correct registration application form in your package, you must indicate āØwhether you are going to be registering as a resident or non-resident property elector.
Mail ballot packages will be sent out commencing on or about October 1. To be counted, your mail ballot must be received by the Chief Election Officer (or designate) in Cranbrook no later than 8 p.m. on October 20.
- By mail or by hand to Sarann Press (or designate), Chief Election Officer, Cranbrook City Hall, 40-10th Ave. South, Cranbrook B.C., V1C 2M8, by 4:30 p.m. Friday October 19, OR
- By hand to Sarann Press (or designate), Chief Election Officer, at Laurie Middle School Gymnasium, 1808 2nd Street South, Cranbrook, B.C. prior to 8 p.m. on October 20.
ELECTOR QUALIFICATIONS
If you are not on the list of electors, you may register at the time of voting by completing the required application form available at the voting place. To register you must meet the following qualifications:
Resident Elector
- a) Ā is a Canadian citizen;
- b) Ā is, OR will be on October 20, 2018, age 18 or older;
- c) Ā has been a resident of British Columbia for the past six months;
- d) Ā has been a resident of the City of Cranbrook for the past 30 days; and
- e) Ā is not otherwise disqualified by law from voting.
RESIDENT ELECTORS may register on Voting Day at the Polling Station, if they meet these qualifications and provide two pieces of identification (at least one with a signature). Picture identification is not required. The identification must prove both residency and identity.
Non-Resident Property Elector
(a) Ā is not entitled to register as a resident elector of the City of Cranbrook;
(b) Ā is a Canadian citizen;
(c) Ā is, OR will be on October 20, 2018, age 18 or older;
(d) Ā has been a resident of British Columbia for the past six months;
(e) Ā has been a registered owner of real property in the City of Cranbrook for the past 30 days;
(f) Ā has received the written consent of a majority of the registered owners of the property designating you as the one who may vote (only one person may vote on the property āØqualification no matter how many owners there may be).
NON-RESIDENT PROPERTY ELECTORS may register on Voting Day at the Polling Station, if they meet the qualifications set out, have two pieces of identification (at least one with a signature to prove identity), PROOF OF OWNERSHIP OF THE PROPERTY and the WRITTEN CONSENT OF A MAJORITY OF THE REGISTERED OWNERS OF THE PROPERTY designating you as the one who may vote.
NOTE: There is no mayoral election this year as Mayor Lee Pratt has been re-elected via acclamation.
