“Pete”
1931 – 2018

Peder Andreasen was born August 4, 1931 in Viking, Alberta – the eldest child of Sigurd and Jennie (nee Pedersen) Andreasen. He passed away at home in Cranbrook, BC on September 19, 2018 after a well-fought 3-year battle with the complications of Anti-GBM disease.

Peder lived in Viking until 1940 enjoying farm life and cross-country skiing. The family then moved to Surrey and while his Dad worked as a commercial fisherman, his Mom took care of the home and boys. He was surrounded by extended family in Surrey and a large Norwegian community. Pete graduated from Queen Elizabeth High School in 1949. He loved playing baseball, basketball and floor hockey into his early thirties – meeting dear, life-long friends along the way.

Among his neighbours was Rita Jacobsen, who would eventually win his heart. They were married on June 26, 1954 and lived in Surrey until 2018 when they moved to Cranbrook to be near their daughters. Pete and Rita enjoyed over 64 years together building their home, raising their daughters, camping, and travelling with friends extensively throughout Europe, the British Isles, Southeast Asia, Canada and the USA.

Pete worked in various jobs throughout the years: fisherman, fish processor, paint sales at Eatons and Nygaard’s Paints (even though he was colour-blind), finally finding his life-long vocation at Mungeams News (later Mainland News then Great Pacific News). He started as a delivery driver and worked his way up to Senior Sales Manager before retiring in 1994.

Peder always kept current in world events. He read the Vancouver Sun from front to back daily – always starting with the business and sports pages. His love of the business world led him to dabble successfully in the stock market and form (with a group of poker-playing friends) a profitable investment group.

While his hobby of choice in adulthood began as fishing, he finally succumbed to the passion of golf and never looked back. Pete and Rita spent many weeks a year in Osoyoos enjoying the company of friends on and off the golf course. In later years he met new friends while playing pool at Creekside in Surrey. Throughout his life, there was rarely a hockey, football or golf game he missed on TV.

Peder was a very loving and generous husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather – always caring about and genuinely interested in the lives of others. He shared his interests of gardening, stamp-collecting, camping, golfing, business, and world events with his family. He encouraged life-long learning and modeled this with becoming adept at computer use after retiring.

Peder was predeceased by a sister, Norma, his parents and many close friends. He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife Rita; his daughters Lee Andreasen and Kelly Klein along with son-in-law David Klein; grandchildren Corey (Lana), Michael (Cassie), Austin and Breanna Klein; great-grandchildren Griffin, Trevor, Jesse, Edward and June; brother Norris (Barbara) Andreasen and family; and extended family and dear friends.
