ICE add another piece for Winnipeg
The Kootenay ICE announced this afternoon it has signed 2003-born forward Chase Bertholet (pictured).
Bertholet was acquired by the ICE in a trade earlier this year with the Red Deer Rebels.
Drafted in the fifth round (94th overall) by the Rebels in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft, the Thompson, Manitoba native is currently playing for the Prince Albert Mintos in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA League.
In 42 games, the 15-year-old has recorded 13 goals and 29 assists for 42 points. Last season, while playing for the Norman Wolves of the Winnipeg AAA Bantam League, Bertholet registered 30 goals and 38 assists for 68 points in 36 regular season games.
âChase was a player we thought very highly of in his bantam draft year and he has continued his progression this season,â said Jake Heisinger, Director, Scouting and Hockey Operations. âChase is an offensive forward with very good skill and play-making abilities that will fit in nicely with our mix of young talent.”
ICE President and General Manager Matt Cockell added, âWe would like to thank Chase and his family for committing to the ICE and are excited for his future.â
With Tuesdayâs announcement, the ICE has now signed five players selected in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft. The other four include defenceman Carson Lambos (first round, second overall), defenceman Karter Prosofsky (second round, 26th overall) forward Skyler Bruce (second round, 29th overall) and forward Evan Waldie (eighth round, 158th overall).
The Kootenay ICE will be relocating to Winnipeg for the 2019/20 Western Hockey League season.
The next home game for the ICE in Cranbrook is against the Swift Current Broncos on Friday, March 1. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
