2020 Coal Miner Days cancelled

As many are all too well aware, COVID-19 has had an incredible impact on not only the Elk Valley, but the world, over the last couple months and many local businesses, organizations and residents have been affected.

The Coal Miner Days Society is a non-profit organization focused on coordinating and executing the annual Coal Miner Days event. The event is organized to highlight local businesses (Fernie, Hosmer, Sparwood and Elkford) and create activities suitable for any individual.

Each year we work hard to bring a fun, free weekend to the residents and visitors of Sparwood. The focus for our event continues to be about building community spirit while showcasing all the greatness our community has to offer.

Our event focuses on bringing together large groups of individuals; made possible by the support from our local business and non-profit organizations. Being sensitive to the impacts of COVID-19 to our local economy, Coal Miner Days Society did not reach out to businesses for sponsorship and withdrew application for community funding.

Due to the direction we’ve been receiving from our provincial, federal and local governments it appears this situation may extend quite some time. As such, we regret to inform the community that due to COVID-19 Coal Miner Days 2020, schedule June 8 to June 14 will be cancelled.

We greatly appreciate all the support we’ve seen from volunteers, businesses, non-profits and the District of Sparwood to-date for Coal Miner Days 2020 and are looking forward to executing a fantastic event in 2021!
