Hot and dry conditions have increased the risk of wildfire in our area from moderate to extreme, and our neighbouring communities are experiencing current wildfire activity.

Community safety is our top priority as the City of Fernie, in cooperation with our community and provincial partners, assesses local wildfire risk and mitigation strategies, including the possibility of instituting backyard fire bans.

Current status:

• A back yard fire pit permit is required;
• A responsible adult to be present at all times;
• Extinguishing agent (water) must be on hand;
