Better Babies changing to Bellies to Babies

A new name, same service

For over 20 years, Better Babies Pregnancy Outreach Program has been working with Cranbrook families who are expecting or parenting a new baby. As the program moves forward and expands to provide service in Kimberley, it was decided that an update was in order.  Over the past few months, Better Babies asked program participants, staff and community members for input on the name and logo.

“The response we received was that the name Better Babies had its time and that we needed a change. We are excited that as of September we will be changing our name to Bellies to Babies,” said Pat Chisholm, Bellies to Babies coordinator.

“It’s a much more inclusive name for our program.” said Jenn Betts, the outreach worker with Bellies to Babies in Kimberley. “We provide services and supports for families from pre-conception to the baby’s first birthday.  We wanted our name and logo to reflect that.”

Along with the name and logo, Bellies to Babies will soon be unveiling a new web page and joining the Social Media scene on Facebook.  However, despite the changes, Bellies to Babies will continue to offer the same programs and supports including:

Drop-in group sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week in Cranbrook and Wednesdays in Kimberley (transportation and on-site childcare are provided as needed to support attendance at the drop in groups)

Food and vitamin supplements along with nutritious lunches

A clothing and baby equipment exchange cupboard

Registration for labour & delivery and breastfeeding classes as well as tours of the maternity ward.

“It is a great place to meet others going through similar situations and to share and learn from other parents.  The staff provides lots of information and encouragement and can refer to other programs too. With outreach visits, staff meet participants in places that are comfortable for them.  They provide lots of other services; you just have to ask,” says Christie, a program participant.

To find out more about Bellies to Babies, visit the program site in the Cranbrook Family Connections building next to the Skate Park, phone 250 489-5011 to book an appointment or home visit, or check out the new web page www.ccscranbrook.ca .
