One dead in crash west of Golden
One person is dead following a collision between a semi-trailer and passenger vehicle earlier today on the Trans-Canada Highway west of Golden.
On Tuesday, November 10, at approximately 11:50 a.m., Golden RCMP, Trans Canada East Traffic Services (TCETS) and Emergency Services responded to a fatal collision on Highway 1, near Donald.
Upon arrival it was determined that a semi-truck jack-knifed into oncoming traffic and collided with a passenger vehicle. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured; however, one person in the passenger vehicle died at the scene, reported Cpl. Mike Halskov of BC RCMP Traffic Services.
Police are in the very early stages of this investigation and details are limited. The cause of the crash is not yet known, and nothing has been ruled out. Highway 1 is closed in both directions as the investigation continues. Traffic control personnel are on scene.
TCETS Golden has conduct of the investigation. Anyone with information regarding this crash, including any dashboard camera video, is asked to call TCETS in Golden at 250-344-2221.
All highways throughout the East Kootenay are currently experiencing winter driving conditions.
