All residents in the City of Cranbrook are reminded of the requirement to remove ice and snow from all sidewalks bordering their properties within 24 hours of a snow event this winter.

Changes to the City’s Streets, Traffic and Parking Bylaw, adopted by Council on May 31, includes the requirement for sidewalks to be cleared within the 24-hour timeframe.

“Many of our residents and business owners already faithfully clear their sidewalks after it snows and we appreciate that,” said Paul Heywood, Manager of Bylaw and Building Services with the City of Cranbrook. “This bylaw change encourages those who do not clear their sidewalks to start to allow for better mobility of everyone using our sidewalks during the winter months.”

The city continues to work in partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association Kootenays (CMHA) to help find volunteers to be part of their Snow Angels program. The program helps identify those who need assistance with snow clearing with volunteers who can do the work for them.
