Driver arrested after crashing into Save-On Foods

A man has been arrested after crashing into the entrance of the Sparwood Save-On Foods last week.

On May 24, at approximately 11:50 p.m., a vehicle crashed into the entrance of Save-On Foods causing significant damage.

The Sparwood Fire Department was first on scene and had to break the window to gain access to the driver as the driver’s door was locked, reported Cst. Debra Katerenchuk of Elk Valley RCMP.

The lone male occupant was unconscious and was taken to the Elk Valley Hospital for medical attention. He was later released from hospital and driven to a friend’s residence.

The male was arrested for impaired driving by drugs, dangerous driving, and possession of controlled substance. The incident is still under investigation.

There was no other damage to the building and thankfully no one was seriously injured due to the collision.

The front entrance has been temporally repaired.
