New development application fee begins January 1
Effective January 1, 2023, the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) will be implementing a restructured development application fee schedule.
“The new fee structure was determined after in-depth consideration of the current direct costs to process applications such as staff time and the price of advertising. The RDEK’s Planning Service operates on a fee-for-service model and as a result, we have had to raise fees on most of our applications,” explained RDEK Planning Supervisor Karen MacLeod.
“Our fee schedule had not been reviewed since 2012 and the costs associated with of processing applications has, in some cases, increased substantially. Where possible the increase has been kept to a minimum.”
In addition, new fees have been applied to some services such as detailed property specific information requests and processing of legal documents, which were previously provided at no charge.
Examples of applications that are impacted by the new fee schedule include, but are not limited to: Zoning Bylaw and Official Community Plan amendments, Temporary Use Permits, Development Permits, subdivision applications and Development Variance Permits.
The current application fees will remain in effect until December 31. If applicable, applications that are received or postmarked before this date will be eligible for the 2022 fees.
A copy of the new application fee schedule is available on the Applications page of the Planning and Development Services section on www.rdek.bc.ca.
