More to Wings Over the Rockies than birds

Did you know that the annual Wings over the Rockies Nature Festival is not just about the birds?

In 1997, this seven-day festival was founded to celebrate the abundance of birds that live in or migrate through the wetlands of the Columbia Valley. But Wings has evolved into a festival that celebrates the valley’s wildlife, history and culture as well. It provides a unique blend of events that celebrate both the arts and sciences of our natural world.

The guests at the Spring Soirée on Saturday, May 13 will be entertained by musician Kevin Olson as they mingle with friends at this casual evening affair. A nature themed display of local art, sponsored by Columbia Valley Arts, shows us ways to interpret the natural beauty around us.

Following the Soirée, enjoy the keynote presentation by Dr. Dale Leckie.

A concert featuring Séan McCann (the #Shantyman), a co-founder of the iconic Canadian band, Great Big Sea, will be a spectacular way to wrap up Wings 2023.

Séan is a recipient of the Order of Canada for his mental health and recovery advocacy. His concert features incredible music, stories and laughter.

Tickets for the concert on Sunday, May 14, at 7 p.m. in the Columbia Valley Centre go on sale April 11, 10 a.m. at www.wingsovertherockies.org

The festivals annual photo contest is open to all ages. Photo entry categories include natural landscapes, wildlife and people enjoying time with Nature. To learn more about how to enter and the contest rules, please visit HERE.

The auction opens on May 5 and closes on May 14. The premier offering is a nature cruise with Adventure Canada. Get ready for some bidding, enjoy the variety of offerings and help us to keep the Wings festival flying!
