Electoral Area B Volunteer of the Year honoured
Melissa Fahselt has been officially recognized as the 2023 Electoral Area B Volunteer of the Year.
“Melissa’s voluntary efforts have touched every corner of her community,” said Regional District of East Kootenay Electoral Area B Director Stan Doehle. “Her significant contributions toward initiatives involving young people are particularly notable, and there are few who have not benefited from her contributions in Jaffray.”
A long-standing member of the Sand Creek Recreation Commission, Melissa held the position of vice-president for over a decade and is now going into her fifth season as president.
A strong supporter of youth sports, Melissa can be found at the ball diamond umping games, coaching teams, organizing concessions, lining ball fields for games and organizing tournaments. She served as the secretary of the Jaffray School PAC for years and still contributes heavily via volunteer time at the concession stand, helping with hot lunches, fundraisers, bakes sales, book fairs, and much more.
Within the community, Melissa has long contributed to the efforts of the Jaffray Community Club. She organizes the Jaffray Walk-a-thon every spring, is a large part of making sure the Fall Fair is a success and can generally be found helping with anything involving the Jaffray Hall.
She has also made substantial contributions of time and energy to St. Joseph’s Parish in Jaffray.
Director Doehle formally recognized Fahselt at a community event earlier this year.
