Golden officer awarded commendation for bravery

RCMP honour and recognize employees during awards ceremony held in Kelowna Oct. 19

On Thursday, October 19, dignitaries including the Southeast District RCMP Commander, Chief Superintendent Brad Haugli, along with Deputy Commissioner Dwayne McDonald, Commanding Officer, gathered to recognize and present various medals and special awards.

There were over 60 awards, service medals and commendations to both peace officers, civilian member employees, civilians, and public service employees.

The last such recognition ceremony hadnā€™t been held since 2019.

There were 18 award recipients recognized for meritorious service to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and their country, having served for 20, 25, and in two cases, over 30 years.

Among those honoured is Cst. Amber Brunner, a former member of the Golden RCMP Detachment.

ā€œCst. Brunner, who was working as an RCMP officer in Golden, was awarded the Commissionerā€™s Commendation for Bravery for her demonstration of bravery in the face of danger.

ā€œIn 2016, Cst. Brunner was shot by a suspect who had fled from police while also attempting to shoot at them. Cst. Brunner put herself in harmā€™s way to protect nearby civilians from becoming victims. While doing so, she suffered a gunshot from the suspect.

ā€œCst. Brunner demonstrated courage and bravery in the face of a dangerous situation,ā€ Southeast District RCMP outlined.
