John Wort Hannam Trio playing Kimberley Nov. 24
John Wort Hannam finds his voice in lyrically driven folk roots music.
Hannam was a public school teacher of language arts, spending several years as an educator on Canada’s aboriginal reserves. When that phase of his life ended, he picked up a guitar and wondered if folk music might be his next career.
Inspired by quirky tunes of Louden Wainwright lll, the Alberta based man sat at his kitchen table for most of the next year, depleting his savings but happily ended up 10 fine songs that became his first album, Pocket Full of Holes.
Two decades later the thoughtful and quite soulful Hannam has released eight CDs, won a number of awards- including Album of the Year from the Canada Folk Music Awards. He has toured the international festival circuit from the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, DC to Great Britain and Australia.
A master of gentle introspection, Hannam is a natural-born storyteller with an expressive voice and sophisticated guitar skills. This old- school prairie bard is interested in everything from the simple joys evoked by a well-built Martin guitar to deeper concerns family responsibilities and life in a small town.
Effective writing is most powerful in a live setting and Kimberley will be fortunate to see John Wort Hannam Trio at Centre 64 on November 24 at 8 p.m.
This popular group will be hosted by Live @ Centre 64 and sponsored the OVERTIME Beer Works .

“Crowds have hooted and hollered with Hannam. His tight band brings joy, memorable songs, some spiffy playing and a sly sense of humour to the stage.” Kicking Horse Culture.
