BCWF conservation lottery a win for the environment
British Columbians can support habitat restoration, independent wildlife research, and environmental leadership programs for youth across the province by buying tickets for the B.C. Wildlife Federation (BCWF) Conservation Lottery and 50/50 draw.
The Grand Prize this year is a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 Pro 4WD (pictured) valued at more than $63,000 and an Early Bird Draw for a 2024 Yamaha Kodiak 450 ATV.
Last year’s 50/50 winner took home more than $146,000. Holiday and outdoors prize packages will also be awarded.
The B.C. Wildlife Federation partners with First Nations and community groups all over British Columbia, organizing hundreds of thousands of hours of volunteer work.
BCWF Youth Programs engage more than 6,000 children and teens each year through Wild Kidz day camps, Go Wild!, the Young Conservationist Scholarship Program, classroom education, and the National Archery in the Schools Program. In 2023, Wild Kidz and Go Wild! camps were held in Invermere, Peachland, Fort St. John, Dawson Creek and Surrey.
More than 200 women attended BCWF Becoming an Outdoors Woman skills camps in Prince George, the Okanagan, and Squamish in 2023.
The BCWF will build more than 100 beaver dams over the next three years to create riparian zones, saturate soils, and store water for slow release, helping to regulate flow and temperature in fish-bearing streams. Beaver Dam Analogues (BDAs) are a low-cost approach to wetland restoration and fish habitat enhancement designed to mimic natural wetlands and ecological processes.
Wetlands Workforce crews conducted restoration, enhancement, maintenance and monitoring work for more than 50 wetlands across British Columbia in 2023. Invasive species were removed, and native species were planted by community volunteers, work-pods, First Nation technicians and Land Guardians, and project partners.
We provide financial and in-kind support for research on Chronic Wasting Disease in cervids, the Southern Interior Mule Deer Project, the Southern B.C. Cougar Project, and research into the decline of Interior Fraser Steelhead.
BCWF’s Fish Habitat Restoration & Education Program led fish habitat workshops and restoration projects including Juvenile Sturgeon Conservation, Fish Habitat and Riparian Stewardship, the Outdoor Access Improvement Project and Fishing Forever, which assists people with disabilities to enjoy a day of fishing.
