Columbia Valley RCMP Report

By Sgt. Ed deJong

This past week, January 1 to 8, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 54 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files our officers responded to.

Stuck and turned around woodcutter rescued by Search and Rescue

On January 2, Columbia Valley RCMP received a call from a male who had been out cutting firewood when he got his truck stuck. After attempting to walk out to a main road and finding he had gone the wrong way, he called police. Columbia Valley Search and Rescue was activated and the male was located and brought to the Invermere and District Hospital for observation due to chest pain.

Distraught male with knife apprehended and officer injured

On January 2, members of Columbia Valley RCMP responded to a report of a suicidal male with a knife. The male had left his residence and was located in a wooded area where he fled from police. After a short pursuit, the male was safely apprehended and brought to the hospital to speak with a doctor. During the foot pursuit, one of the police officers suffered a minor injury after falling down a steep slope.

Impaired driver removed from road

On January 7, a male was pulled over for driving infractions on Highway 93/95 and during the stop the officer established grounds for a Roadside Screening test. After providing a breath sample, the male was found to be impaired by alcohol and issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Driving Prohibition (IRP) and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
