David Francey playing Centre 64 Feb. 4

Sorry, this just in!

One of Canada’s outstanding poets, songwriters and storytellers will be taking to the stage at Centre 64 Theatre in Kimberley on Feb. 4.

Juno Award winning David Francey is a Scottish-born Canadian carpenter-turned-songwriter, who has become known as one of Canada’s most revered folk poets and singers. Born in Scotland to parents of factory workers he moved to Canada when he was 12. For decades, he worked across Canada in railway yards, construction sites and in the Yukon bush, all the while writing poetry and setting it to melodies in his head and singing to himself as he worked.

A truly authentic folk singer, Francey is a documentarian of the working person who never imagined earning a living from his music. But when he was in his 40s, his wife and artist, Beth Girdler, encouraged him to share his songs and sing in public. The reaction was instant.

His first album, Torn Screen Door, came out in 1999 and was a hit in Canada. Since then he has released 11 albums, won three Juno Awards and has had his songs covered by many artists.

Francey is on tour with award winning Nova Scotian funeral director-turned- songwriter Terra Spencer. Spencer has won over audiences in Canada, the UK and Germany since her 2018 debut. She has already crafted a catalogue of startling intimate songs marrying finger style guitar, gospel piano and her butterscotch voice with sly humour and 70’s wood paneling warmth.

David Francey on tour with Terra Spencer- hosted by Live @ Studio 64 and sponsored by the Overtime Beer Works, Pedal and Tap restaurant, the Shed and Deer Park Diner on Sunday, February 4 at Centre 64 Theatre at 8 p.m.
