Mainroad urges be prepared for changing conditions
The full gamut of winter conditions such as rain, snow, and fog are here. Are you prepared when you are driving area streets or highways?
Weather can change drastically in a matter of moments, and it’s important for drivers— new and experienced —to be prepared before you go out. Install winter tires, new wiper blades, and bring an emergency kit with you. Drivers should be prepared to face all types of winter driving conditions, recommends Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting (Mainroad).
Please slow down when driving in heavy snow. Watch for brake lights ahead and leave extra space between vehicles and remember to turn your headlights on. It’s up to all of us to keep the roads safe, so have patience for winter maintenance vehicles and other drivers.

“The important takeaway is that winter is unpredictable. Weather can change and so can the roads. This winter, please remember: if you’re not comfortable going out, don’t! When you do have to travel, please check DriveBC and drive to the conditions,” stated Mainroad General Manager Teagan Burton.
In response to a high frequency of questions from the public during winter operations, Mainroad maintains an online FAQ which offers helpful resources.
It’s Call Centre operation is available 24/7 to report changing road conditions and debris. Please call toll free at 1-800-665-4929, and an operator will record and forward the information to crews on shift, dispatch additional personnel, and update Drive BC.
