Safety video shows triggered double avalanche near Fernie
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) recently released a video of a double avalanche, purposely triggered in 2014 near Fernie, to educate the public on obeying safety signage.
“Check out the incredible footage from our avalanche team on Highway 3 near Fernie. The sheer power and raw beauty of nature never ceases to amaze,” MOTI noted on social media.
“REMINDER: Never stop in an area where ‘No Stopping in Avalanche Zone’ signs are posted. (Until you are beyond the ‘End Avalanche Area’ sign.)”
This double avalanche took place on February 21, 2014, at the Morrissey Pass on Highway 3, about 15 kilometres of south of Fernie, MOTI explained.
