Game six twixt Rockies and Ghostriders March 16

The Columbia Valley Rockies staved off elimination from the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) playoffs with a convincing 5-1 victory over Fernie Ghostriders last night at the Fernie Memorial Arena.

The Rockies victory has the series situated at three to two for the Riders, with game six scheduled Saturday, March 16 at Invermere’s Eddie Mountain Memorial Arena, game time 7 p.m.

Last night, Ben Sharp and Kyran Gromnisky led the Rockies with two points each, including Gromnisky scoring the winner short-handed at 8:56 of the second period. His tally marked the first of four consecutive goals by the Rockies and Sharp contributed to the final two goals.

Nate Glenn (pictured left) made 29 saves for the Rockies.

Riders’ Landon Hedges notched his first Teck Cup playoffs goal on the power-play 1:26 into the second period, before a crowd of 817 in Fernie.

Game seven, if necessary, will be back in Fernie on Monday, March 18 at 7 p.m.
