One Life showing March 28 at Key City Theatre
Next up for the Rotary Club of Cranbrook Sunrise’s Rockies Film Festival and Series is Second World War tale One Life, showing Thursday, March 28 at Key City Theatre at 7 p.m.
This is a true story about Sir Nicholas Winton (Anthony Hopkins) who rescued 669 children from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia at the brink of the Second World War. Most never saw their parents again; nearly all left behind were murdered.
In 1938, 29-year-old ‘Nicky’ cancelled a ski holiday and instead spent nine months masterminding a seemingly impossible plan to rescue hundreds of Jewish children and find them homes in the UK.
Over 6,000 people are alive today because of his efforts. Fifty years later in 1998 Nicky is haunted by the fate of the children he wasn’t able to save blaming himself for not doing more. It’s not until a live television show surprises him by introducing some surviving children – now adults, that he finally begins to come to terms with the guilt and grief he has carried for five decades.
