Sparwood Council Facts

The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the April 16 District of Sparwood council meeting.

DELEGATION

Adams Wooley Chartered Professional Accountants

David Adams, representing Adams Wooley Chartered Professional Accountants, presented council with the 2023 audited financial statements.

BYLAW

Utility and Solid Waste Management Amendment Bylaw

Council adopted the Utility and Solid Waste Management Amendment Bylaw. The Amendment Bylaw adds a Sani-Star System to the Sani Dump station near the Sparwood Museum. Once installed, there will be a $10 per use charge for recreation vehicle waste.

Financial Plan (2024-2028) Bylaw No. 1331, 2024 and Tax Rates Bylaw No. 1332, 2024 Council has given first three readings to the Financial Plan (2024-2028) Bylaw 1331, 2024 and Tax Rates Bylaw 1332, 2024. The purpose of these bylaws is to formalize the budget process, as legislatively required.

BUSINESS

2023 Draft Financial Statements

Council accepted the communication letter from Adams Wooley Chartered Professional Accountants and the financial statements for the year ended December 31, 2023.

Development Variance Permit for 446 Willow Place (DVP2024-002)

Council issued the development variance permit for 446 Willow Place to vary the rear yard and side yard setbacks from 1.52m to 0.91m to allow for a 6.09m by 8.53m accessory building.

Community Funding and Support Policy

Council amended the Community Funding and Support Policy to include ‘Other local activities and community focused projects deemed eligible by council’ which will be brought forward only to council for consideration.

Community Funding and Support Requests

Council approved the following community funding and support requests: Elk Valley Thrift Shop $3,000 for utilities; Sparwood Seniors Society $1,702.46 for bear resistant garbage bins; Ghostrider Adventure Camp Foundation $3,000 towards the cost of four children from Sparwood to attend summer camp.
