Important findings from KORE Roundtable Sessions

In the summer of 2023, the Kootenay Outdoor Recreation Enterprise (KORE) engaged in a research project with Selkirk Innovates to develop a regional sector profile of the outdoor rec-tech sector in the Kootenays, and to determine strategic priorities for those in the industry.

The research involved in-person focus groups at six communities including Nelson, Invermere. Revelstoke, Fernie, Kimberley/Cranbrook and Rossland/Trail, as well as a survey sent to businesses involved in the sector throughout the region. The project was supported by the Province of British Columbia’s REDIP program.

Key findings from the focus groups and the survey highlighted the diversity within the KORE network and the value businesses find in collaboration through networking, mentorship, and exposure to new markets; all of which enhance sales.

Business owners suggested that KORE could enhance its support by offering more tailored services and activities aimed at promoting growth and sustainability. And the need for more comprehensive business support services was also recognized.
