Police still searching for suspect’s vehicle
On May 10, Elk Valley RCMP safely located and arrested a 39-year-old man in connection with a May 8 disturbance which resulted in a weapons complaint.
The man, who is local to the area, faces firearms, assault and driving related charges.
“Elk Valley RCMP thanks the community for their patience while the search took place,” said Cpl. James Grandy, BC RCMP spokesperson.
RCMP in the Elk Valley are also requesting the public’s help in locating the vehicle driven by the accused.
The 39-year-old man was arrested, and has been remanded into custody until his court appearance on May 28.
The vehicle he was alleged to have used has not been found.
“Investigators are hoping a member of the public may come across it and call Police,” explained Cpl. Grandy. “Given the extend of damage it sustained, it will stick out.”
The suspect vehicle is described as an older model dark grey Ford F-150, with a headache rack, camouflage along the sides, and heavy damage to the windshield and front-end.

As of today, May 9, the suspect in a May 8 weapon incident near Baynes Lake remains at large.
“There continues to be no active threat to the public, but given the suspect is still at large, we’re asking the public to call 911 should they see the vehicle in question,” said Cpl. James Grandy, BC RCMP spokesperson. “RCMP resources are in place, continuing to actively search for the suspect.”
The suspect vehicle is described as an older model dark grey Ford F-150, with a headache rack, camouflage along the sides, and heavy damage to the windshield and front-end.
On the morning of May 8, frontline officers were dispatched to a rural property near Baynes Lake for a report of a disturbance involving a weapon. No other details about the weapon have been released.
No one was injured in the incident.
“At this time, the incident appears to be targeted,” explained Cpl. Grandy. “Police continue to monitor this event and its associated risk to public safety. The suspect does not appear to be an active threat, but does remain at large. Officers are working diligently to locate and apprehend the suspect.”
Police have released a photograph of the suspect’s vehicle, along with the licence plate: British Columbia SM9740.
