This past week, July 1 through July 7, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 56 calls for service.
A big shout out and thanks to Columbia Valley Search and Rescue
The Columbia Valley RCMP Detachment would like to take this time to thanks all the members of the Columbia Valley Search and Rescue. Over the last week they have been extremely busy helping injured or stranded persons to safety and were first on scene of a horrific helicopter crash. These members are local community members that volunteer their time to help those in need. A big shout out and thanks for all you do.
Stranded boater rescued by good Samaritan
On July 2, Columbia Valley RCMP was notified of an overturned sailboat on Lake Windermere. The strong winds flipped the boat and the operator was not able to get it right side up. Members were on-route using the RCMP police boat; however, a good Samaritan near-by saw the incident and used their own boat to rescue the stranded boater.
Bike stolen in Radium
On July 5, Columbia Valley RCMP was made aware of a stolen bike out of Radium Hot springs that occurred over the last two days. The bike is a red and black Rocky Mountain Growler 2.0, size large. If anyone has seen or knows of its where abouts, please contact the RCMP detachment.
Stranded hikers located and flown to safety
On July 6, members of the Columbia Valley RCMP Detachment were made aware of stranded hikers near the Lake of the Hanging Glacier due to the road being washed out. One of the hikers came out a day early and came across a flash flood that washed out the road, making it impassible by vehicle. The hiker was able to cross and used his mountain bike to pedal for help. Search and Rescue was requested and confirmed the road was washed out and observed two vehicles on the wrong side of the flooded area. The hikers were eventually located and flown out to safety.
