Six fires out-of-control in East Kootenay

BC Wildfire Service today (July 20) reports five new lightning-caused wildfires in the East Kootenay, including three north of Kimberley, one about 20 km south of Invermere and another south of Cranbrook.

The fire southeast of Cranbrook (Gold Creek 1) was discovered July 19 and is out-of-control at 3.3 hectares. It is about 40 km from Cranbrook.

Two of the fires north of Kimberley were discovered July 19, including one at Bradford Creek, which is .03 ha and another at Lost Dog N, which is .009 ha.

Finally, a new fire is reported today on Mt. McMillan and it is an estimated .5 hectares.

All three of those fires are clusted together in a triangle between 25 and 30 km north of Kimberley.

The fifth new fire, discovered July 19, is on Brewer Ridge, south of Invermere. It is about .2 ha.

The Mt. Morro Wildfire in Top of the World Provincial Park is still out of control at 1,444 ha.

The Michel Creek fire near Sparwood, discovered July 18, is under control at .1 ha.
