Water main fix underway in Elkford

Residents in some areas of the District of Elkford may notice reduced water pressure due to a water main break that occurred in the early morning of Tuesday, August 13.

The timeline for the repair is to be determined, but once an assessment is made, the district will provide an update via social media.

Note that residents along Alpine Way—from Almond Street to Alpine Drive, and Alpine Drive from Alpine Way to Ash Crescent—currently have reduced pressure and will lose pressure completely once repairs begin. During this time, it is recommended that residents in this area fill buckets (and/or a bathtub) to be used for toilet flushing and non-potable uses. Drinking water containers should be filled in advance of this time.

Residents on Alder Street, Almond Street, Arbutus Street, Aspen Crescent and Alpine Drive (from Ash Crescent to Fording Drive) will experience reduced pressure throughout the outage. Residents in this area should not lose pressure completely; however, filling buckets and/or a bathtub, etc. could be considered in case the situation does arise.

Those living in this area are also asked NOT to use their sprinklers or irrigation systems during the reduced pressure period in order to help keep the reduced amount of water flowing.

Note that this is a residential water main, and it affects only one area of Elkford; water service in the rest of the community is not currently affected, and residents and businesses should be able to continue as normal.

A friendly reminder to abide by all signage, use detour routes when provided and follow the directions of crews. While travelling through any work zone, remember to give workers extra room, obey the posted speed limits and be prepared to stop if needed. We appreciate your cooperation!

Comments and questions on social media will not be monitored; please contact the Public Works department directly for more information at 250.865.4025 or [email protected].
