Thanksgiving Kids Carnival aids Food Bank

True to its promotion as ‘A Different Kind of Carnival,’ Saturday, October 5 saw the first Thanksgiving Kids Carnival take place.

Children attended by their parents completed a creative circuit of facepainting, food bag creation, carnival style games, and thanksgiving activity stations. Instead of receiving prizes for themselves, the children were awarded a non-perishable food item at each station to add to their personalized food bag, which upon completion of the circuit, they helped unload into a ‘pantry’ to be delivered to the Cranbrook Food Bank.

They then received a treat bag and a popcorn bag to thank them for their participation. Many comments were given about the fresh approach which focused on teaching generosity and thanksgiving to the children. Giving, instead of getting, while having fun.

The ‘Pantry’ beginning to fill up as over 1,200 food items were collected to be donated to the Cranbrook Food Bank.

In total, approximately 1,200 food items were donated to the food bank, through the generous donations from Save-On-Foods, and the congregations of the event organizers, Abundant Life Pentecostal Assembly and New Life Foursquare Church.

A big thank you to all, and the many volunteers who helped organize and run this event. Plans are already underway to make this an annual event.
