Legendary Bill Usher playing Key City tonight
Award-winning music producer and performer Bill Usher is set to take the stage at Key City Theatre tonight Friday, Oct. 18) with his heartwarming and happy show Good-Getting-Older Songs & Stories.
Known for his work with iconic childrenâs entertainers like Sharon, Lois & Bram and Sesame Streetâs Big Bird & Oscar the Grouch, Bill now brings his personal reflections on life, aging, and family to the forefront in this intimate and happy performance.
Backed by his stellar bandmates, Paul Pigat, Holly Hyatt, and Steve Briggs, Bill weaves together original songs and stories that speak to the universal experiences of growing older. Through humorous anecdotes, poignant moments, and thought-provoking lyrics, the show touches on themes of family, love, and the lessons life teaches as we age.
Good-Getting-Older Songs & Stories promises to take audiences on a journey through Billâs own life experiences, shared through a blend of music and storytelling. The show resonates with audiences of all ages, from those in midlife reflecting on family and aging, to younger adults who connect with the universal themes of love and self-discovery. While not specifically for children, itâs recommended for kids nine and up for those who want to include younger family members.
Linley McLean, former Executive Director of the Golden Womenâs Resource Centre, describes it as âa show that will make you laugh, reflect, and groove!â McLean further highlights Billâs honest and refreshing take on family, calling it a must-see for anyone seeking an uplifting and meaningful evening.
Bill Usher is no stranger to the stage. In fact, he first toured Canada in the 80s with his Juno Award-winning album DRUMS! and has written and performed two other solo shows at theatres and fringe festivals in the 90s and 2000s. After stepping away from touring while serving as Artistic and Executive Director of Kicking Horse Culture, Bill returns to the stage with Good-Getting-Older Songs & Stories, sharing the wisdom and warmth heâs accumulated over decades of storytelling and music.
âGrowing up and growing older has always been a big theme in my creative life,â Bill explained. âWith this new show, Iâm drawing from songs I wrote in my 40s and 50s, now adding reflections from the perspective of a 78-year-old. Itâs all about the things that happen as some of us grow up, while others grow old.â
Audiences in Cranbrook are in for a treat with this one-of-a-kind performance. Combining storytelling with a unique blend of folk, blues, and roots music, Good-Getting-Older Songs & Stories is sure to leave a lasting impression on everyone in the room.
