MLA McInnis appointed as Shadow Minister

One week after being sworn in as the new MLA for Columbia River – Revelstoke, taking up the reins from retired MLA Doug Clovechok, Scott McInnis has been named to a portfolio that will have him working closely with the Metis Nation and First Nations communities locally and from across British Columbia.

“It’s a tremendous honor being selected by John Rustad to undertake the role of Shadow Minister for Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation,” McInnis said. “This is a very important portfolio in British Columbia, and I look forward to working locally and provincially with Indigenous Communities and the Ministry to advance Reconciliation in an impactful way.

“As someone who values relationship building and prosperity for rural communities, this is the ideal file for me.  I look forward to this challenging, yet extremely rewarding work ahead of us.”

McInnis’ first week at the BC Legislature in Victoria started with a moving Remembrance Day observance, official swearing in ceremonies and an intense MLA training session.

“Being present for Remembrance Day in Victoria was extremely impactful. There were thousands in attendance of all ages, and backgrounds. When the pipers played Amazing Grace, there wasn’t a dry eye in the crowd. I was blessed to be joined there by my amazing wife Diana and son Luke. I simply would not be here without their unconditional love and support,” he reflected.

“I also want to thank all the people who worked so hard with me over the last several months.  Whether you voted for me or not, I am focused on representing all of the hard-working people in Columbia River-Revelstoke.”

MLA McInnis and his staff are working to have the constituency offices in Kimberley and Revelstoke open on December 2 and thank everyone for their patience during this transition period.
